Location:

Outpatient Nutrition Services is located on the lower level of Woodstock Hospital in room L304. Enter the hospital using the Athlone Avenue entrance.

Accessing this Service:

A written referral from a family physician can be faxed to Outpatient Nutrition Services; we also accept self-referrals by contacting Outpatient Nutrition Services directly by phone. Please remember to bring your health card with you.

A registered dietitian will help translate scientifically sound nutrition advice into practical nutrition guidelines. The dietitian can assist the client on a variety of nutrition topics from healthy nutrition approaches to mindful eating and specific nutrition advice related to certain medical conditions. The dietitian will assess the nutritional needs, assist in the development of a nutrition care plan and work together with the client to monitor the effectiveness of the nutrition goals through regular follow-up appointments as needed. An individual appointment and the heart health seminar are offered.

The following are a description of services offered:

Individual Nutrition & Diet Counselling

This is a one-hour appointment visit with a registered dietitian that includes a nutrition assessment, specific nutrition counselling and eating guidelines for the following conditions:

  • Healthy eating and mindful eating strategies
  • Chronic health conditions: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, liver disease, osteoporosis
  • Food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities
  • Gastrointestinal disorders: celiac disease, IBS, diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis
  • Nutrition and pregnancy
  • Malnutrition and unintentional weight loss
  • Vegan/vegetarian eating

Heart Health Seminar

This is a two-hour nutrition education seminar for heart health that will assist in the lowering of elevated blood cholesterol and triglycerides. This seminar is offered every 3 months. The heart health seminar covers the following topics:

  • Risk factors to heart disease
  • Healthy eating
  • Mediterranean diet approach
  • Making healthy fat choices
  • Benefits of fibre for heart health
  • Label reading
  • Active living
