Woodstock Hospital consists of a 32,500 m2 hospital built in 2011 and a 2,500 m2 medical building built in 2012. The hospital has 178 beds, and provides primary care to 55,000 people and specialized care to 100,000 people in the community Services and programs offered in this facility include the following:
- Physiotherapy and rehabilitation services
- Cardio-respiratory services
- Pharmacy and laboratory services
- A diagnostic Imaging (DI) department
- Surgical services
- Inpatient medical/surgical beds
- Critical care and complex continuing care
- A maternal/child/women’s health unit
- Inpatient and outpatient acute mental health services
- Emergency Services
As part of the construction process, the hospital achieved LEED® Silver Certification. The site achieved two points for water efficient landscaping design that results in no ongoing potable water usage for irrigation. The project did not pursue water efficiency credits, as there was concern about legionella risk associated with low flow faucets that use aerator technology.
- Major uses of water in the facility includes the following:
- Cooling tower (mid-April – mid-November only)
- Domestic cold water (lavatories, water closets, showers)
- Domestic hot water (lavatories, showers)
- RO Water (Sterilization, RO for operating rooms, humidification [November-March only])
- Hard water (hose bibbs on exterior of building, brine tank)
The facility’s water consumption for 2012 was 2.12 m3/m2, which is lower than the provincial average, according to the Ontario Hospital Association’s Green Hospital Scorecard. The following is a water trend for the past 2 years at the hospital:
