Routine Obstetrical Scan (18-20 week scan) Preparations

PLEASE REVIEW
Patients MUST arrive 20 minutes before their appointment time. Patients arriving late may be rescheduled.
Please be aware that this is a “Fragrance Free” facility.
If this appointment is no longer needed, notify Central Bookings for cancellation.

PREPARATION
– Drink 1 Litre of fluids (no carbonated drinks) and be FINISHED one hour before appointment time (e.g. if exam at 10:00 – finish drinking by 09:00)
– DO NOT empty bladder unless extremely uncomfortable, and then only enough to relieve the discomfort (usually about 250-300mL)
– No food restrictions
– Continue your medications as usual

The staff and radiologists of Diagnostic Imaging recognize that this is a special time for you and your family.
The ultrasound is a medical exam:
1) The Sonographer must complete the ultrasound before anyone is brought into the room.
2) We ask that you refrain from asking the Sonographer for any ultrasound results during the scan (including sex determination).
3) Your referring physician can provide you with the results at your follow-up appointment and answer any questions at that time.

DIRECTIONS
Park in the front (north) parking lot, located off Juliana Drive and enter the hospital through the Main Entrance.

Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 4:30pm
– Check in at Diagnostic Imaging/Cardio Respiratory Reception on Main floor
– After registering, proceed to Waiting Area #4, room M894

Weekends, Holidays and After-hours
– Check in at Patient Registration to the right of the Lobby
– If there is no one there, check in at Switchboard located through the Emergency Entrance

Please do not bring small children to your appointment unless accompanied by another adult.
