Physician Opportunities

  • Full-time Psychiatrist (2)

    Woodstock Hospital is a full service 178 bed Community Hospital and Schedule 1 facility. We are located at 310 Juliana Drive,  Woodstock, ON N4V 0A4. Our Inpatient Mental Health Unit has 19 adult care beds. Woodstock Hospital offers a wide range of inpatient/outpatient psychiatric services to residents in Oxford County, total catchment population of over 135,000, which include Tillsonburg, Ingersoll and surrounding area.

    We are currently seeking two (2) Full-Time Psychiatrists to join our Department of Psychiatry, including Family Physicians, skilled Nurses and Social Workers who assess, diagnose and develop a treatment plan with clients.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    As a Psychiatrist, you will strive to ensure that each patient has a caring and compassionate experience. As a Schedule 1 psychiatric facility, our Mental Health Department  promotes seeking help through a variety of programs and services, free of stigma. We treat our clients with dignity and respect, and ensure we promote an inclusive and open environment. More specifically, you will be responsible for providing psychiatric consultations, evaluations, treatment planning, and medication management services through the following programs:

    • Inpatient Mental Health: Inpatient Mental Health is a 16-bed program with three Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) beds. The inpatient care team provide observation, care and treatment to persons experiencing moderate to severe mental health symptoms. Our team works with patients and their families or caregivers to develop individualized care plans to stabilize symptoms.
    • Medical Social Work Program: The Medical Social Work Program is designed to support people admitted to an inpatient unit or connected to an ambulatory care service within Woodstock Hospital. Our social workers collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure quality care is provided during the person’s admission, and we help facilitate transitional discharge plans.
    • Crisis Response: Our crisis team provides three core crisis services: emergency room crisis response, brief crisis follow-up, and consultation liaison. Crisis response includes a mental health crisis assessment and brief follow-up intervention.  Post crisis follow-up is organized with healthcare professionals and community supports, as needed.  Consultation liaison services are available for patients who are already admitted, and are experiencing psychiatric crises within Woodstock Hospital.
    • Talk-In Counselling: Talk-In Counselling is a drop-in program designed to support residents of Oxford County or patients affiliated with an Oxford County physician, who are experiencing mental health issues or concerns. A single session therapy approach addresses the immediate problem that is identified by the person seeking support. This program is offered through a collaborative partnership with other community agencies.
    • Outpatient Psychiatric Care: Psychiatric care is available to children, youth and adults who may require an assessment for diagnostic and/or treatment recommendations. All referrals to outpatient psychiatry require a Physician’s referral.
    • Therapy: Individual and group therapy sessions promote stabilization and provide necessary ongoing care, treatment and transition to people experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues or concerns. Individual therapy services are available for people of any age.  For group therapy, you must be 18+. Individual and group therapy sessions are available to individuals who have attended our Talk-In Counselling AND completed our Brief Therapy Program. It is also available to individuals who are currently being treated by our Outpatient Psychiatry Team.
    • Med Clinic: The Medication Clinic is an outpatient mental health program available to people who require regularly scheduled appointments with a registered nurse for the administration of a prescribed intramuscular antipsychotic medication. Metabolic monitoring and management of potential medication related side effects are monitored by the nurse during scheduled appointments. People involved with Medication Clinic must be followed by a Woodstock Hospital consulting Psychiatrist or a Physician with Woodstock Hospital privileges.
    • Eating Disorders: The Outpatient Eating Disorder Program is a satellite outreach program funded and modeled after London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) Child & Adolescent and Adult Eating Disorders programs. The program provides evidence-based, short-term treatment options including: Family Based Treatment (FBT) for adolescents and, Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-E) for adults (18+ years).
    • Prevention & Early Intervention Program for Psychosis (PEPP): This program is part of the Early Psychosis Intervention Ontario Network (EPION). PEPP is for people between ages 14 and 35 who are experiencing symptoms of a psychotic disorder and have not received treatment for psychosis or have had 6 months or less of treatment for psychosis. Outside the 14 to 35 age range, clients will be assessed on an individual basis and the program will either provide treatment or refer the client to another more appropriate service.  Key components of the PEPP program includes: access and early identification, comprehensive assessment, treatment, psychosocial support, as well as,  family education and support.
    • Behaviour Supports Ontario (BSO): BSO is a program designed to support older persons (primarily 65+ year old) living in the community with cognitive impairments due to mental health issues, addictions, dementia and other neurological conditions that can often cause responsive behaviours. Responsive behaviours may include aggression, wandering, physical aggression and at times wandering without specific purpose, most often related to the older person’s condition of cognitive decline.

    Skills & Qualifications

    If you possess the following skills and qualifications, you will be a great fit as a Psychiatrist. Notably, you have:

    • Inpatient and/or Outpatient psychiatric care experience.
    • Drug and/or alcohol psychiatric care experience.
    • Child and adolescent psychiatric care experience.
    • Adult psychiatric care experience.
    • Senior psychiatric care experience.
    • Early intervention for psychosis psychiatric care experience.
    • Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and eligible for licensure in Ontario.
    • Effective English communication skills.
    • Effective organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • A team player, able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high volume environment with a commitment to provision of high quality patient and family centered care.

    Wages

  • Full-Time Obstetrician and Gynecologist (1)

    Woodstock Hospital delivers approximately 1,100 babies each year. Woodstock Hospital is a Level 1B Hospital and will hopefully become a Level 2 Nursery with the start of our Pediatric program in 2022, to allow for a Special Care Nursery/Pediatric admissions with recruitment of Pediatricians.

    The ideal candidate for the position must hold certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and have an independent license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

    This individual should be a team player, be able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high volume environment with a commitment to provision of high quality patient and family centered care.

    The successful candidate will become the fifth Obstetrician/Gynecologist to join the group at Woodstock Hospital. Call coverage will be 1 in 5 and an on-call premium is provided for on-call availability. Regular O.R. time will also be provided to the candidate.

  • Part-Time or Full-Time Emergency Medicine Physician

    Qualifications/Requirements: Applicants must be licensed to practice independently in Ontario, certified in Emergency Medicine and be ACLS and ATLS certified.

    Woodstock Hospital is a full-service community hospital including 24/7 Lab Services, Diagnostic Imaging (including CT and MRI), 12 bed CCU, Rehab, Complex Continuing Care, Obstetrics, Schedule 1 Psychiatry and state-of-the-art Surgical Services. We provide primary care to a population of 55,000 people and to nearly 120,000 in Oxford County.

    Compensation is based on an Alternate Funding Agreement and HOCC for on-call.

  • Full-Time Pediatrician

    We are currently seeking a Full-Time Pediatrician to join our Department of Pediatrics, including specialized Physicians and skilled Nurses who diagnose and treat conditions of newborn through adolescence, as well as young adults, and treat illnesses, care for minor injuries, and treat infectious disease.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    As a Pediatrician, you will strive to ensure that each patient has a caring and compassionate experience. You will be required to keep track of the physical, behavioral, and mental health in young patients, and address concerns and issues they experience. As a provider of general medical care, you will monitor patients’ growth and developmental milestones. You are responsible for examining young patients and for creating and tracking their medical history. You will also be required to diagnose and treat illness, medical conditions, and injuries in patients and work to ease the lives of children living with chronic conditions.

    Other duties include advising parents and guardians on their children’s health, safety, and nutritional needs, as well as fitness goals, in addition to performing and interpreting diagnostic tests for patients, and administering vaccines.

    The successful candidate will also be responsible for participating in the call schedule to provide inpatient coverage for a level 2a nursery and pediatrics; attending high risk deliveries; offering consultation to the emergency department; oversee the out-patient pediatric acute referral clinic; and oversee the community pediatric practice in Woodstock.

    The successful candidate may also be required to accept medical students and pediatric residents from Western University, and will be eligible to apply for an affiliated academic title.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    If you possess the following skills and qualifications, you will be a great fit as a Pediatrician at Woodstock Hospital. Notably, you have:

    • A license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or eligible to obtain license.
    • A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with specialty certification or eligible to become a Fellow and obtain certification.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program qualifications.
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or willingness to obtain the certification.
    • Evidence of on-going continued medical education to satisfy the requirements of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
    • Commitment to a multidisciplinary team approach to pediatric care.
    • A special interest or focus of care in neonatology is beneficial.
    • Effective English communication skills.
    • Effective organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high-volume environment with a commitment to provision of high-quality patient and family centered care.

    Salary:

    Wages as a Pediatrician are $260,287 plus 51.21% of the fees for service pursuant to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan Schedule of Benefits and Fees  for 37.5 hours per week. Pediatrician are entitled to 4 weeks’ vacation.

    Woodstock Hospital is looking to recruit a full-time or locum Anesthesiologist to join our team.
    The Anesthesia team supports 5 OR’s, 2 endoscopy suites and provides coverage to the following surgical services:

    • General Surgery
    • Orthopedic Surgery
    • ENT
    • Endoscopy
    • Urology
    • Gynecology and;
    • Obstetrics (including a 24hr epidural service)

    We have an amazing team of 9 anesthetists and are recruiting to backfill for a retirement. Call averages about once per week. A call room is available for those who live more than 15 minutes from the hospital.

  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our growing team of psychiatrists here at Woodstock Hospital.

    You will be joining a collegial team of three full time psychiatrists and several part time psychiatrists. The primary focus of this role will be the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents referred to our outpatient program. The position can be structured as full time or part time with flexibility in the job plan. A full-time role may include the opportunity to also see adult patients. The successful candidate will be expected to: provide coverage during absences and staff shortages on our inpatient unit and participate in the psychiatry on call roster.

    While applications from candidates seeking part-time work are welcome, preference will be given to candidates able to offer a full-time commitment, including the ability to see adult patients. We also encourage applications from adult psychiatrists with experience and a willingness to work with children and adolescents.

    About Woodstock Hospital

    Woodstock Hospital is a 178 bedded hospital and serves a catchment area of 110,000. We are an accredited hospital with Exemplary Standing and have a state-of-the-art facility. We serve approximately 2,000 psychiatry referrals annually.

    Our Psychiatry Team supports several programmes across Oxford County providing both inpatient and outpatient services within our Schedule 1 psychiatric facility. The inpatient facility has a total capacity of 19 beds with 3 PICU beds included. Outpatient programmes currently supported include but are not limited to; PEPP programme, BSO, DSO and CMHA. Our psychiatry team also provides consultation-liaison support for patients admitted to the medical floors in the hospital.

    Requirements: Psychiatrist with specialist qualifications including FRCPC or American board qualifications with an independent CPSO license.  Psychiatrists who are eligible for registration with the CPSO are also welcome to apply.

    Remuneration: will be a combination of sessional funding and fee for service. No overhead costs. Office space will be provided.
