Acute Medicine

Location:

The medicine units are located on the main and second level of the hospital, units M200 and 22/23/2400.

The palliative care unit is located on the second level of the hospital, unit 2200.

The Acute Medical Unit provides nursing care for patients with gastrointestinal disorders, genitourinary disorders, respiratory problems (pneumonia, COPD, chronic bronchitis) and cardiovascular disease (stroke, chest pain and heart failure). Our healthcare team is dedicated to promoting the maximum possible independence and healthiest lifestyle for all patients in the unit throughout their hospital stay.

Our Palliative Care Transitional Unit, which is part of our medicine program, offers care focused on the quality of life of patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness, through the prevention, assessment and treatment of pain and other physical, psychological and spiritual issues.

Our goal is “Quality of Life” and putting life into days and not days into life.  We fully support and encourage patient participation and involvement in decision making at all stages. Our committed team of registered nurses, registered practical nurses, hospitalists, family practitioners and ward clerks also work closely with other health professionals and the Community Care Access Centre to provide the best possible ongoing care for our patients.
