Nuclear Medicine Instructions – MIBI Study Preparations

PREPARATION     THIS IS A 2 DAY EXAM
As both days can be long, be prepared by being dressed comfortably, bring reading material and a snack. Guest WIFI is available. The technologist will inform you of the return time following part one of the exam.
– No caffeine for 24 hours before the test
– No Nitro patch for 2 hours before the test
– Nothing to eat for 4 hours before the stress test, Diabetics can have juice and take their medication.|
– No long-acting Nitrates for 4 hours before the test, Imdur Nitrates
– Continue other medications as usual
– Wear comfortable clothing, and walking shoes, leave metal jewelry at home and bring a snack . Patients will be required to remove bra for scan and stress procedure.

DIABETIC DEVICES:
Glucose sensors and insulin pumps can be damaged by X-rays, radiation and magnetic fields. Glucose sensors and insulin pumps must be removed immediately prior to your test. Insulin pumps may be restarted following the test. Glucose sensors cannot be reinserted – you must use a new sensor following the test. For any questions regarding your device, please contact the manufacturer of your device.

CONSENT AND INJECTION
– An injection is required, so patient MUST be capable of giving informed consent (If incapable, the substitute decision maker must accompany the patient)
– Please bring your current medications and a list of allergies
